InfoSphere BigInsights is not designed to run on the Network File System

Preventive Service Planning

Abstract

The network latency and lack of flock operation over network design for the Network File System (NFS) conflicts with the parallel processing design of InfoSphere BigInsights.

Content

NFS stores data centrally in a safe repository, whereas InfoSphere BigInsights stores data locally, and then replicates the data on other machines in the cluster. Instead of transferring data across the network for processing, InfoSphere BigInsights processes data in parallel by using the Hadoop Distributed File System (HDFS).

Until future research is completed to resolve the architecture differences, InfoSphere BigInsights does not support NFS.
