Handling single quotes in file names for IBM FileNet Content Services

Technote (FAQ)

Question

Since a single quote is a reserved character in SQL, how does Content Services support filenames with single quotes?

Cause

Custom applications may not handle files with single quotes properly if not designed to match Content Services' handling of them.

Answer

Content Services converts the single quote within the file name to an ASCII 191, when stored in SQL. Client applications, it converts this back to a single quote when retrieving the file
