Hardware and Software Requirements: Version 3.2 FlashCopy® Manager for Microsoft Exchange & 6.4 Data Protection for Microsoft Exchange Server

The following components share the same hardware and software requirements. The components are:

• FlashCopy Manager for Microsoft Exchange Server 3.2.0 --> which is a part of the IBM Tivoli® Storage FlashCopy® Manager 3.2.0 product.
• Data Protection for Microsoft Exchange Server 6.4.0 --> which is a part of the IBM Tivoli® Storage Manager for Mail 6.4.0 product.

Minimum hardware requirements

The following information describes the minimum hardware and disk space requirements when using FlashCopy Manager for Microsoft Exchange Server 3.2 or Data Protection for Microsoft Exchange Server 6.4.


x64
The following hardware is supported for the x64 platform.

• Compatible hardware supported by the operating system and the Microsoft Exchange Server

The following disk space is required for the x64 platform.

• A minimum of 80MB of disk space, and optionally:
• At least 100MB disk space for prerequisites included in the installation package (which are installed automatically if they are not already installed on the system)
• At least 7MB of disk space for each Language Pack to be installed (there are a total of 9 available)

TIP: Some of the above prerequisites may require a system reboot. To avoid a system reboot, please ensure that all of the minimum software requirements prerequisites detailed in the Additional Microsoft prerequisitessection of this document are installed before starting the FlashCopy Manager for Microsoft Exchange Server or Data Protection for Microsoft Exchange Server installation process.


FlashCopy Manager for Microsoft Exchange Server meta data space requirements

In addition to the space that is required for the global product installation, Tivoli Storage FlashCopy Manager uses disk space to hold vital product data that is used to track and manage snapshots. By default, the meta data is stored in the C:\adsm.sys\vss_staging directory. The amount of space required is directly proportional to the number of snapshots that you maintain on the system. Ensure that there is at least 1 megabyte of available free disk space to hold the meta data for each snapshot that you plan to keep on the system.

In addition, if you are protecting a Microsoft Exchange Server, Tivoli Storage FlashCopy Manager keeps mailbox history information in the meta data to support individual mailbox restore (IMR) processing. The amount of space required for this is directly proportional to the number of mailboxes in the entire organization. Ensure that for each user mailbox in your organization, at least 50 kilobytes of disk space are free to hold the meta data.

Therefore, it is recommended that you have at least 200MB available for the above described meta data - though the need for more is possible depending on your operating environment.



Minimum software and operating system requirements

The following information describes the minimum software and operating system requirements when using FlashCopy Manager for Microsoft Exchange Server 3.2 or Data Protection for Microsoft Exchange Server 6.4.


The following operating systems are supported for the x64 platform.

• 64-bit Windows Server 2008 SP2, and later Service Pack levels: Standard x64, Enterprise x64, or Data Center x64, editions
• 64-bit Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1, and later Service Pack levels: Standard x64, Enterprise x64, or Data Center x64, editions

The following additional operating environments are supported.

• Windows Failover Clustering
• Veritas Cluster Server (VCS) environments

The following application levels are supported.

• Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 SP3, and later Service Pack levels: Standard or Enterprise Editions
• Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 SP1, and "Update Rollup 2 for Exchange Server 2010 (KB242517) and later rollup and later Service Pack levels: Standard or Enterprise Editions
  • Limitation 1: Support for Microsoft Exchange 2010 Service Pack 3 is planned for availability in Data Protection for Microsoft Exchange Server 6.4.1 and FlashCopy Manager for Microsoft Exchange Server 3.2.1.
  • Limitation 2: Support for Microsoft Exchange Messaging API (MAPI) Client and Collaboration Data Objects (MAPI/CDO) download version 6.5.8309.0 is planned for for availability in Data Protection for Microsoft Exchange Server 6.4.1 and FlashCopy Manager for Microsoft Exchange Server 3.2.1.

• TIP: A Data Protection for Microsoft Exchange Server 6.4.0.2 interim fix has been released and includes the fix for IC90654. Until the FlashCopy Manager for Microsoft Exchange 3.2.1 component fix is available, FlashCopy Manager customers may install and use the Tivoli Storage Manager for Mail: Data Protection for Exchange 6.4.0.2 interim fix in their environment. The Data Protection for Microsoft Exchange fix provides equivalent functionality to FlashCopy Manager for Microsoft Exchange when used in FlashCopy Manager environments.
• WARNING: Applying the fix for IC90654 requires the use of Microsoft .NET version 4.5 (or later).

Additional Microsoft prerequisites

The following prerequisites are required, and are installed automatically by FlashCopy Manager for Microsoft Exchange Server 3.2 or Data Protection for Microsoft Exchange Server 6.4, if not already present on your machine.

TIP: Installation of these prerequisites may require a system reboot. To avoid a system reboot, please ensure that these prerequisites are installed before starting the FlashCopy Manager for Microsoft Exchange Server or Data Protection for Microsoft Exchange Server installation process.

Note: These prerequisites are not automatically installed when you create your own silent installation package to install via msiexec. In that scenario, you must manually ensure that the prerequisites are installed.
• 64-bit FlashCopy Manager for Microsoft Exchange Server 3.2 and Data Protection for Microsoft Exchange Server 6.4 requires:

FlashCopy Manager for Microsoft Exchange Server 3.2 requires the following components:

• MMC Snapin and Base System Services 3.2
  Note: This is a component included in the Tivoli Storage FlashCopy Manager on Windows 3.2 package.
• VSS Requestor 3.2
  Note: This is a component included in the Tivoli Storage FlashCopy Manager on Windows 3.2 package. It is also known as the Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) Backup-Archive Client 6.4.

Data Protection for Microsoft Exchange Server 6.4. requires the following component:

• Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) Backup-Archive Client 6.4., and later 6.4.x levels, releases, and versions

Additional requirements for storage of backups in a Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) Server

• The Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) API Client 6.4., and later 6.4.x levels, releases, and versions
  
  Note: The Tivoli Storage Manager API Version 6.4.0 is included and automatically installed with Data Protection for Microsoft Exchange Server 6.4.
