You would like to know when the 8.5.x versions of IBM Notes, IBM Domino, IBM Enterprise Integrator for Domino, and related products will reach End of Service/Support (EOS). In addition, you would like to know what is the last maintenance release of 8.5.x.
The EOS date for these products has not been planned. Based on IBM's commitment outlined at the IBM Software Support Lifecyle Policy, 8.5.x versions of Notes, Domino, Enterprise Integrator for Domino and related products will not reach EOS before September 2016.
8.5.3 was the last planned maintenance release in the 8.5.x code stream and no 8.5.4 maintenance release is planned. IBM will continue to provide Fix Packs and Interim Fixes for 8.5.3. This allows us to provide fixes in smaller, more frequent packages for our clients. All planned content for 8.5.4 was included in Notes/Domino 9.0 Social Edition.
Our plan remains to continue producing both maintenance releases (to get the broader set of fixes), and Fix Packs (to target the high impact fixes that customers need more urgently) for Notes and Domino 9.0.x. The increased focus on the 9.x code stream will allow us to address issues from the rapidly expanding adopters of IBM Notes and Domino 9.0 Social Edition. Issues resolved in the 9.x code stream will also be resolved in 8.5.3 through Fix Packs where it makes sense to do so.
IBM Notes Domino 9.0 Social Edition is the recommended release for our clients. It offers a smooth upgrade path for customers to gain new and enhanced functionality, and additional fixes. It provides increased productivity, a modern rich user experience, significant single sign on enhancements, and much more. You can read the announcement letter here for full details on this exciting release.
Any official EOS date for 8.5.x will be announced a minimum of 12 months prior to an EOS date. Going forward we intend to provide support for the current version and two previous versions. The following excerpt provides more detail on the initiative as detailed on the Lifecycle page.
"One of our new initiatives will be to support, on a going-forward basis for select IBM branded products that have not previously announced an EOS date, not only the ‘current’ version of the product, but also up to two previous versions, in an effort to limit disruptive technology transitions. In this context, a ‘version’ is a major functional enhancement level."
