IBM Infosphere FastTrack login authentication failure

Technote (troubleshooting)


IBM InfoSphere FastTrack login returns authentication failed error.


The server ipaddress or server hostname cannot be resolved.



Diagnosing the problem

Review the Infosphere FastTrack log file for errors. Default location

C:\Document and Settings\<user>\fasttrack-workspace_8\.metadata\.log.

You may find something like the following:

Caused by: You are attempting to connect to server [XYZ]. This server is configured to communicate with clients using the hostname [XYZ] on port [1234]. [XYZ] :[1234] is not reachable. Ensure that the [XYZ] can be resolved and that communication on port [1234] between this machine and the server is not blocked.

Resolving the problem

The preferred method to resolve the problem is to change the DNS configuration of the client machine so that the host name will resolve properly using both the qualified and unqualified names. Consult with your system administrator to complete this task.

If changing the DNS configuration is not possible an alternative is to add an entry to the etc/hosts file on the client machine for the server you are logging into, and retry login. Entry would look something like following:

<ipaddress> fully qualified server name #comment

9.98.344.22 #this is test server

Retry login using either ipaddress or hostname
