Abstract
After upgrading to z/VSE V4.3 or z/VSE V5.1, you might encounter unsatisfactory terminal response times in CICS because CICS does not get control, or see a performance degradation with the use of compressed files. You might also see incorrect statistics from various monitoring tools, such as WAITS and VSAM response times of zero. And, some DL/I monitoring tools might not capture any data due to certain I/O EXCPADs not being driven.
Content
Even if you are not aware of any performance problems in CICS Transaction Server for VSE/ESA (CICS TS) V1.1.1 or CICS/VSE V2.3, you are encouraged to apply the PTF for your release of z/VSE:
Additional details on the problems that these z/VSE PTFs fix:
- EXCPAD not being called for CICS file control put (FCP) requests like GET and PUT, with any product that use EXCPAD
- EXCPAD not being called for control interval (CI) access like DL/I and possibly DB2/VSE
- Excessive CPU usage for compressed VSAM files (mostly batch)
- An abend 2C5 (abend2C5) due to SVC 50 (X'32'), cancel task, being called when EXCPAD is busy but is needed again
