IBM Support

Logging out results in a WebSphere Application Server error message

Troubleshooting

Problem

If you are running WebSphere Application Server (WAS) and you log out of IBM Rational Engineering Lifecycle Manager, you get the error message SESN0008E.

Symptom

The user is not logged out properly.

The resulting message is in the form of a JavaScript object, ending with:

"SESN0008E: A user authenticated as anonymous has attempted to access a session owned by user...".

Resolving The Problem

Enable the fix on WebSphere Application Server (8.0.0.3+) by adding a custom session manager property.

Click Application servers > server1 > Session management > Custom properties
and add the InvalidateOnUnauthorizedSessionRequestException = true custom property.

Alternatively, if the user simply closes the browser window rather than explicitly logging out, the session eventually times out on its own.
