Preventive Service Planning
This technote provides details about how to prevent synchronization issues with Feature Level 6 VOB families after upgrading from IBM Rational ClearCase MultiSite 8.0.0.x (including 8.0) to 184.108.40.206 or a later patch.
ClearCase 220.127.116.11 contains a fix for defect APAR PM71680 (packet header mismatch between Feature Level 6 VOBs hosted on ClearCase 7.1.2.x machines and Feature Level 6 VOBs hosted on ClearCase 8.0.0.x machines). This fix restores Feature Level 6 packet compatibility with ClearCase 7.1.2.x, but hosts running older ClearCase 8.0.0.x versions also will not be compatible with hosts running ClearCase 18.104.22.168.
If you have a Feature Level 6 VOB family with all VOB servers running ClearCase 8.0.0.x, and you wish to upgrade to ClearCase 22.214.171.124 (or a later patch), you must upgrade all of the family VOB servers at the same time.
A VOB server running ClearCase 8.0.0.x that is hosting a Feature Level 6 VOB replica will be unable to import packets for that replica generated on a 126.96.36.199 (or later) VOB server, and will generate export packets from that replica that are not readable (can not be imported) by a 188.8.131.52 (or later) VOB server.
Packet imports fail with warning message:
multitool: Warning: Cannot read header of packet
23T095226+0200_2316: Invalid argument
multitool: Error: File
23T095228+0200_8428 is not a sync. packet
An alternative solution is to raise the VOB family feature level to 7 or higher, but that requires you first to run cleartool reformatvob on all members of the VOB family to change their VOB schemas to schema version 80.
Refer to the IBM Rational ClearCase Information Center under the topic of reformatvob for further information about the command.
