"Invalid path to authentication servlet" error when logging into RTC, RRC, RDNG

Troubleshooting


Problem

Attempts to login to IBM Rational Team Concert (RTC), Rational Requirements Composer (RRC) or Rational DOORS Next Generation (RDNG) results in "Invalid path to authentication servlet" error.

Symptom

When launching a hyperlink from Microsoft applications (such as Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, or others) to the repository in Microsoft Internet Explorer 8 (and not Mozilla Firefox) the following error will occur:

HTTP 403: "Invalid path to authentication servlet"

Cause

The proxy server is returning an HTTP 403 error code due to Internet Explorer disallowing HTTP traffic on the local file system.

Resolving The Problem

It is also recommended you contact IBM Support to ensure that your environment complies with the information in this technote to ensure that the resolution will apply.

The following registry key must be added:
32-bit:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Common\Internet "ForceShellExecute"=dword:00000001

64-bit:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Common\Internet "ForceShellExecute"=dword:00000001
