IBM InfoSphere Information Server Installation: The port number text fields in WAS Profile Ports Assignment panel are not editable

Problem(Abstract)

During the IBM InfoSphere Information Server installation process, in one of the panels (the IBM WebSphere Application Server Profile Ports Assignment panel), the port number text fields are not editable when using Mozilla Firefox 12 or later.

Symptom

Only special keys work, such as the cursor keys, Enter, Esc, Delete. Regular keys, such as characters and numbers do not register.


Cause

The InfoSphere Information Server installation program uses RAP (Rich Ajax Platform), which is an open source software platform under the Eclipse Technology Project. The "unable to edit text field in Firefox 12 (or above)" is a known issue in RAP: https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=378209

Environment

Mozilla Firefox 12 or later

Resolving the problem


1) You could cut and paste into a text field

    a. Delete the current port number in the text field.
    b. Type the desired port number in a text editor (such as Notepad).
    c. Copy that number.
    d. Use the Firefox Edit menu to paste the value into the desired text field in the installation panel.

OR

2) You could let the InfoSphere Information Server installation program automatically pick the next available port
    a. Select the Back button on the IBM WebSphere Application Server Profile Port Assignment panel to go back to the IBM WebSphere Application Server Destination Directory control panel.
    b. Select the check box to automatically select open ports.
    c. Click Next.

OR

3) Use another browser, such as Microsoft Internet Explorer or Google Chrome.
