Backward compatibility of IBM Rational Test Workbench with Green Hat Software GH Tester

Technote (FAQ)

Question

Is IBM Rational Test Workbench (RTW) backward compatible with Green Hat Software GH Tester?

Cause

Green Hat Software GH Tester and GH Performance products have been superseded by IBM Rational Test Workbench (RTW). You created projects using the Green Hat tools and want to know if you can use them with RTW.

Answer

IBM Rational Integration Tester (RIT) is backward compatible with projects that you created in Green Hat Software GH Tester version 5. You can load and work on a project created in GH Tester version 5 as long as the project database schema is the correct version. SQL scripts to update the schema are found in the scripts folder of the RIT installation.

To use GH Tester version 4 projects, you need to migrate the projects to version 5. Use scripts that GH Tester version 5 supplies.

NOTES

  • For more information read the IBM Rational Integration Tester Release Notes. This document contains a section about upgrading. You can find the release notes in the docs subfolder under the RIT installation folder.
  • As RIT supersedes GH Tester it will have enhancements and new features that were previously unavailable. For this reason it is not recommended that you work on or create projects in RIT and attempt to re-open them in GH Tester. The newer features will not be understood by GH Tester and may result in erroneous operation.
  • In order to be able to run performance tests you need to also install the IBM Rational Integration Tester Agent.
  • RTW uses IBM Rational Common Licensing Technology so any existing Green Hat Software licences need to be replaced.
