Problem(Abstract)

Tivoli Storage Manager FastBack for Bare Machine Recovery fails with the error FBSM8026E. The application fails when using a replicated repository that is located on a Tivoli Storage Manager server.

Tivoli Storage Manager FastBack versions 6.1.6.0 and 6.1.6.1, introduced a problem in performing Bare Machine Recovery (BMR), when using a repository located on Tivoli Storage Manager server.

The tsmapi.dll file was upgraded to a latest version (6.3) and it requires version 10 of Microsoft run-time libraries (redistributables). However, the server code that creates the BMR environment was not updated accordingly.

Symptom

Users of FastBack versions 6.1.6.0 – 6.1.6.1 are affected if they perform Disaster Recovery to a Tivoli Storage Manager server.


Resolving the problem

Work around

Complete these steps when you want to perform Bare Machine Recovery from a repository replicated to Tivoli Storage Manager server:

  1. Follow the steps below to create the FastBackBMR folder:

    a. On the FastBack server, copy the files msvcr100.dll and msvcp100.dll to the \FASTBACKBMR\COMMON folder in the FastBack Server repository from the locations below:
    C:\windows\system32 (on a 32-bit machine)
    C:\windows\syswow64 (on a 64-bit machine)

    b. On the FastBack server, copy the content of C:\program files\ibm\gsk8\lib folder (on 32bit machine) or C:\Program Files (x86)\ibm\gsk8\lib folder (on 64bit machine) to \FASTBACKBMR\COMMON folder in the FastBack Server repository

    c. On the FastBack server, copy the folder \FASTBACKBMR\COMMON\MICROSOFT.VC90.CRT with all its content to the following locations:
    \FASTBACKBMR\COMMON\C\icc\icclib\
    \FASTBACKBMR\COMMON\C\icc\osslib\
    \FASTBACKBMR\COMMON\N\icc\icclib\
    \FASTBACKBMR\COMMON\N\icc\osslib\

    Note: Do not copy the FastBackBMR folder from the Tivoli Storage Manager server using the FBDRCopy utility,
  2. Use this new FastBackBMR folder for the BMR process.
  3. When Bare Machine Recovery loads from the CD, open a command line window and add the following line to the Windows\system32\fb.opt file using Notepad:
    testflag localicc
  4. Fix

Tivoli Storage Manager FastBack version 6.1.6.2 will resolve this issue. This version will be available in September 2012.
