Compatibility Information: Version 6.4 Data Protection for Microsoft SQL Server

• Existing backups created using previous versions of Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) for Databases: Data Protection for Microsoft SQL Server can be restored using Data Protection for Microsoft SQL Server 6.4 within the constraints of the platforms and applications supported by the 6.4 release.

• New backups created with Data Protection for Microsoft SQL Server 6.4 cannot be restored using previous versions of Data Protection for Microsoft SQL Server.

• Data Protection for Microsoft SQL Server 6.4 can be used with either:
  • Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) for Copy Services 6.1
  • Tivoli Storage FlashCopy Manager 3.2

• The following user interfaces that were available in Data Protection for Microsoft SQL Server 6.3 are no longer available with the 6.4 release:
  • MFC GUI (tdpsql.exe)
  The MMC GUI interface available in Data Protection for Microsoft SQL Server 6.3 remains available in the 6.4 release.

• The following operating systems supported in Tivoli Storage Manager for Databases: Data Protection for Microsoft SQL Server 6.3 are no longer supported with the 6.4 release:
  • Windows 2003
  • Windows 2003 R2

If you are using one of these operating systems for your SQL Server, you can not upgrade to Data Protection for Microsoft SQL Server 6.4 for those environments. However, you may continue to use the 6.3.x version of the Data Protection for Microsoft SQL Server on these operating systems for the Support Lifecycle of the 6.3 release.
