Logging into Rational Focal Point Application results in "HTTP Status 404" error

Problem(Abstract)

Attempts to login to the IBM Rational Focal Point client results in "HTTP Status 404" error

Symptom

When you try to open Rational Focal Point, you will observe an error "HTTP Status 404" on the screen.

If you look in the Tomcat application server stdout_yymmddlog, has the following error is logged


org.apache.commons.dbcp.SQLNestedException: Cannot create PoolableConnectionFactory (FATAL: database "xxx" does not exist)

Cause

Generally this is caused by incorrect database or the database does not exist.

Environment

You may observe this behavior databases like Postgres, Oracle and DB2 withTomcat Application Server running.

Resolving the problem

Apply the following steps on the server host where Rational Focal Point is installed:

  1. Stop the Tomcat service for Rational Focal Point from services console or by running a command

  2. Edit the server.xml file located under Apache Software Foundation >Tomcat >conf location

  3. Look for the tag <GlobalNamingResources> and validate that the correct database name was specified in the right format.

    For example:
    jdbc:postgresql://hostname:port/<DataBase_Name>

  4. Save the file and restart the Tomcat service for Rational Focal Point
