The dependency service or group may fail to start when issuing db2start on windows platform

Problem

db2start may fail with "The dependency service or group failed to start " error on Windows platform.

Symptom

The dependency services like - DB2 Remote Command Server, DB2 Governor, DB2 - DB2COPY1 - <instance_name>, Services may fail to start while issuing db2start on Windows platform.

Following error will be seen in this case:

C:\Program Files\IBM\SQLLIB\BIN>db2start
<instance_name> : The dependency service or group failed to start
SQL1042C An unexpected system error occurred. SQLSTATE=58004

Cause

DB2 Remote Command Server, DB2 Governor, DB2 - DB2COPY1 - <instance_name>, Services are dependent on "server" services.

Resolving The Problem

Go to windows services and check for the "server" service, and make sure that the "Status" is started and "Startup type" is set to automatic.
