A iNotes customer upgraded their servers to 8.5.3 fix pack 1 where their users remained on a 8.5.1 template, and since then some users have reported seeing various errors / issues with iNotes, such as:
-- Blank page after the authentication
-- Some user get the generic error message "An error has occurred which may have caused the current operation to fail.
The template corresponding to the server version should be used.
Resolving the problem
This particular customer found clearing the cache of the browser resolved the issue for them.
The customer wished to know then if it was necessary to clear the browser cache of each iNotes user before upgrading the server, and development have advised that normally clearing the cache is not necessary (i.e. not part of the normal upgrade process) this but is often recommended as the first step in troubleshooting when unexpected problems occur.
In order to avoid this issue the customer could do one of the following:
(a) Enable Browser Cache Management (BCM) in order to clear the cache each time the user logs out of iNotes,
(b) The setting in the users "Internet Options" in the browser, so the browser cache will be cleared each time the browser window is closed, this can enabled as follows:
"Tools" -> "Options" -> "Privacy" tab -> in the History section select the "use custom settings for history" in the drop down menus beside "Firefox will" -> then enable the check box "Clear history when Firefox closes"
"Tools" -> "Internet Options" -> Basic tab -> enable the setting "Delete Browsing history on exit"
Development have advised:
iNotes is designed to use the combination of the mail template, Forms*.nsf, the server side modules, and some other files. The 8.5.3 mail85.ntf template should be used on an 8.5.3 server. We don't support any problem which is caused by the version inconsistency of those files.
