Troubleshooting
Problem
aixDataProvider log file shows the following error after timing out 26 seconds (2012/06/28,14:59:01.0000-1:fcstat.c,783,"fc_req_adapter_stats") Error opening device: /dev/fscsi0
Symptom
Actual 26 second time-out error seen in the <hostname>aixDataProvider-614fec68b4-01.log
(2012/06/28,14:58:35.0D76-1:fcstat.c,723,"fc_req_adapter_stats") Entry
(2012/06/28,14:59:01.0000-1:fcstat.c,783,"fc_req_adapter_stats") Error opening device: /dev/fscsi0
Note the 26 seconds of 'nothing' between these two messages. Each re-occurrence of the second message comes after 26 seconds of delay.
Cause
"Error opening device: /dev/fscsiX
errno: 00000046
The errno above is in hex so if you convert to decimal it will be 70.
Now look in /usr/include/errno.h:
#define ENETUNREACH 70 /* Network is unreachable */
"fcstat fcs(x)" is timing out after 26 seconds by design (ie. the fibre adapter will retry 5 times for 5 secs for each adapter. Hence the reason the timeout is 26 (ie. 5 x 5) seconds with a little extra time in other places."
This Fibre adapter was NOT connected to the switch and NO wrap plugs were attached.
Resolving The Problem
Attach wrap plugs to any Fibre adapters that are not terminated into a switch.
