ITCAM for WAS JVM with HIGH CPU

Technote (troubleshooting)

Problem(Abstract)

ITCAM DC - JVM running with high CPU

Symptom

JVMs started running with very high CPU.

Environment

AIX
WAS ND 7.0.0.17
ITCAM for WAS 6.1 FP5 MS and DC

Resolving the problem

1. FTP the attached file SetApplicationMonitoring.xml to the TEMS host server

SetApplicationMonitoring.xmlSetApplicationMonitoring.xml

<Note: The setApplicationMonitoring.xml file is to allow the user to take action on all applications at once instead of execute the take action one by one>

2. From the TEMS host server , login to TEMS.

Command: /opt/IBM/ITM/bin/tacmd login -s localhost

3. Import the situation SetApplicationMonitoring.

Command: /opt/IBM/ITM/bin/tacmd createsit -i /tmp/SetApplicationMonitoring.xml

4. From Situation Editor in TEP, distribute SetApplicationMonitoring to the appropriate Portal Server

5. Verify the parameters of the situation Action. The value should be set to :

YN:Set_Application_Monitoring &{App_Id} 0 0 2

where
YN:Set_Application_Monitoring &{App_Id} <enabled/disabled boolean> <monitoring level> <monitoring %>

- This will disable application monitoring and request analysis (set to Level 0)

- This situation will automatically apply to App_Id > 0 (means : App_Id [greater than] 0)

6. Apply the changes in Situation Editor

7. Start the Situation

8. Wait a couple of minutes

9. Stop the situation

10. Verify in the Application Registry workspace (Within the Navigator, right-click the Application

Health entry; then, from the pop-up menu, click Workspace > Application Registry)

that the Request Data Monitoring Level is disabled.

To revert the changes, repeat the steps 5 to 10, changing the <monitoring level> in step #5 from 0 to 1 (or 2, if Level 2 is desired).
