Problem

You receive the following message When running ontape -s you can receive "Server is in an incompatible state or user authentication failed"

Cause


When running ontape backup receive the following message.
Server is in an incompatible state or user authentication failed. Program over.

Resolving The Problem

  • Ensure the INFORMIXSERVER is online.
  • Invalid INFORMIXSERVER value
  • Invalid INFORMIXSQLHOSTS value or it not set
  • Invalid sqlhosts entries
  • /etc/passwd file is bad
  • permissions of ontape were incorrect
  • bounce the engine,
