VULNERABILITY DETAILS

CVE ID: CVE-2012-2180

DESCRIPTION:

A vulnerability in the IBM DB2 products listed below could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to cause a denial of service. The vulnerability exists in the Distributed Relational Database Architecture (DRDA) module that handles DRDA chaining. A malicious user with knowledge of DRDA could send a specially crafted request to a database server to cause disruptions or a crash. The vulnerability exists on all supported platforms.

The DB2 server reaction to the attack differs depending on the configuration and platform. On all platforms, with the exception of Windows 64-bit, when DB2 Trap Resiliency is enabled, the trap is sustained. Even though the trap is sustained and the DB2 server is able to continue operation, the resources consumed by the trapped thread are not released and hence, a continuous attack will eventually disable the DB2 server.

DB2 on Windows 64-bit is missing the db2sys64.pdb file which causes Trap Resiliency to fail to sustain the trap.
