Web services: Pipeline error 500 might occur after upgrading to Identity Insight v8.0 Fixpack 2

Flashes (Alerts)

Abstract

The Identity Insight Hotfix 8.0 Fixpack 2 upgrade can overwrite the customized webservices.properties file with a template that uses a pipelineURL value with % variables in it, causing the Identity Insight pipeline to not be able to start.

Content

The Identity Insight Hotfix 8.0 Fixpack 2 upgrade can overwrite the customized webservices.properties file with a template that uses a pipelineURL with % variables in it. The new webservices.properties 'pipelineURL' value specified a generic entry such as:

pipelineURL=http://@PIPELINE_HOST@:@PIPELINE_PORT@

After completing the upgrade to V8.0 FP2 and running web services, an "INTERNAL SERVER ERROR (500)" error message displays. The WebSphere Application Server (WAS) logs indicate that WebServicesUtilities failed to find the attribute key. The WAS logs also indicate that it "deleted" the web services deployment.

The pipeline displays the "java.lang.IllegalStateException: The WebServiceUtilities was not found as an attribute in the specified ServletContext under the expected attribute key." and will not start after Fixpack upgrade.

To resolve the issue, make a backup of the existing webservices.properties file (as well as all files associated with Identity Insight) before proceeding with the upgrade. Copy the previous webservices.properties file back over the generic copy from the Fixpack or Hotfix before starting Identity Insight.
