Problem(Abstract)

If you do not enter a valid customer number or VTAM password correctly, VTAM cannot be initialized and the following message is issued:

IST001I VTAM START REJECTED - INVALID CUSTNO OR VTAMPW

Resolving the problem

This message indicates that password validation found an error. Possible reasons for the message can be any of the following causes:

  • Incorrect customer number was specified on the CUSTNO operand
  • Incorrect VTAM password was specified on the VTAMPW operand
  • The VTAMPW operand was specified before the CUSTNO operand
  • The CUSTNO and VTAMPW operands were not specified before any other START operand, including LIST
