DOORS OLE Objects are replaced with a white blank icon on Windows 7

Troubleshooting

Problem

Attempts to see the OLE objects on Microsoft Windows 7 after upgrading to IBM Rational DOORS 9.3.0.6 or above results in Blank icons.

Symptom

Blank icons are seen in place of the OLE objects on a Windows 7 machine after upgrading to DOORS 9.3.0.6 or 9.3.0.7 or 9.4.

When you try to double click the object, it gives this message:

This object is a static DIB and cannot be activated

Note: The icons show correctly in the module using a Windows XP machine.

Cause

This issue was identified as a product defect and logged under APAR PM57507.

Static DIB OLE objects show as icon rather than as an embedded OLE.

This is only the case with DOORS 9.3.0.6 or higher and Windows 7.

In DOORS 9.3.0.5 and Windows 7 the static DIB displays fine (not as an icon)

In DOORS 9.3.0.6 and Windows XP or Windows 2003 Server, the static DIB displays fine
(not as an icon)

Environment

Windows 7

Resolving The Problem

The defect is resolved in Rational DOORS Fix Pack 1 (9.4.0.1) for 9.4 and later.
