After upgrading AIX to 5.3tl12-sp4 or higher, TUAM ORACLE collectors may fail

Technote (FAQ)

Question

After upgrading AIX to a level higher than 5.3tl12-sp4, the TUAM Oracle collector scripts:
~/ituam/collectors/unix/scripts/oracle/ituam_start_odb
~/ituam/collectors/unix/scripts/oracle/ituam_stop_odb
~/ituam/collectors/unix/scripts/oracle/ituam_check_odb
may begin to fail (generating empty output files).

Answer

A change was made to the behavior of the AIX 'ps' command output which eliminated the trailing blank at the end of the stdout output, i.e., the last characters in the stream were changed from ' \$' to just '\$'. This caused the collector script to fail to recognize the end of the 'ps' command and thus generate incorrect output (which was null).

The AIX support team addressed this via two APARs, which can be found at the following links:
http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=isg1IV11930
http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=isg1IV12986

TUAM has accepted APAR IV18313 to correspondingly address the issue in the collector scripts.
