Unable to run reports or templates in IBM Clarity Server, due to the following ActiveX related error message displayed in browser. However, the templates may still open, regardless of the error message.

When attempting to run a template or report in IBM Clarity Server application in browser, the below error message is being encountered:

"ActiveX control could not be loaded, some functionality may not be available"

Clarity ActiveX control does not work properly, even after installing the Clarity ActiveX .msi package on the client machine.

Clarity 7.x

Diagnosing the problem

Open any template in Clarity application in browser

  • Run the http ://localhost/test/testworkstation.asp test in browser, where "localhost" is your Clarity Server name. This page will show if the ActiveX (Xceed) component is working properly or not on the workstation in question.

Resolving the problem

The issue can be resolved by re-registering the Xceed dll and ocx files on the user's workstation.

These Xceed.dll's are used for compression libraries and data grid controls used by Microsoft Office. In most cases, whenever there is been some kind of update to the .NET platform or updates to the MS Office suite, these .dll's need to be re-registered.

  1. Copy the dll files from the application server (they can be found under ClarityServer\Web\ folder) in the Program Files(x86)\Clarity Systems\ClarityActiveX folder on the client machine.

*Note: If the ClarityActiveX.msi package was executed, then the files may already exist in this folder ,so you can simply run the commands from step 2.

2. Open Command Prompt on the client machine. Go to the directory where the Xceed files are located using the "cd" command.

Type these commands:

regsvr32 XceedBen.dll
regsvr32 XceedCry.dll
regsvr32 XceedSco.dll
regsvr32 XceedZip.dll
regsvr32 ClarityGoalseek.dll
regsvr32 CPMActiveX.ocx

*Note: You must run the commands as an administrator on your machine. You should get a successful message after running each of these commands.
