Red Icons in Work Products in Practices Library in Rational Method Composer

Technote (FAQ)

Question

Why do same Work Products elements have a red icon in the Practices Library in IBM Rational Method Composer (RMC)?

Cause

In the Practices Library in RMC the Work Products elements have white and red icons.

Answer

When Rational Software created the Rational Unified Process (RUP), Rational Method Composer did not exist. The work products had their own unique icon and color in the RUP library. For example the work product elements that were documents had a red document icon.

When IBM created the Practices library, Rational Method Composer used the default white icons for all the work products.

In later releases of the Practices library, IBM started incorporating content from the RUP library. The reason is the intention to replace the RUP library with the Practices library. Copying the work products from the RUP library to the Practices library also results in copying their icons.
The result is a number of "red" icons for these added work products.

In Figure 1 you can see an example of the red icons for the work products.
