Collecting Data: Read first for Tivoli Event Pump for z/OS

Technote (troubleshooting)

Problem(Abstract)

For every problem, collecting data can aid problem determination and save time resolving Problem Management Records, PMRs. Gathering suggested MustGather data before calling IBM® support will help you understand the problem and save time analyzing the problem.

Resolving the problem

Collecting MustGather data early, even before opening the PMR, helps IBM Support quickly determine whether:

  • Symptoms match known problem (rediscovery).
  • There is a non-defect problem that can be identified and resolved.
  • There is a defect that identifies a workaround to reduce severity.
  • Locating root cause can speed development of a code fix.

General Data collection

Entering MustGather information into an electronically-opened PMR eliminates delay waiting on the phone to provide general information to Level 1 support.

Always provide the following MustGather information for all Tivoli Event Pump for z/OS problems:
  • Version level of Tivoli Event Pump for z/OS
  • Latest PTF level applied
  • Operating System level (z/OS)
  • Complete output from the instance of the Event Pump that exhibited the problem symptoms. For instructions on how to collect the output please see the following presentation:

Specific Data Collection Scenarios

Event Pump Abend:
  • All items documented in the 'General Data Collection' section.
  • Any SVC dumps generated for the address space.
  • Compress the data using TRSMAIN
  • Submit the data to IBM for review

Event Pump loop or excessive CPU usage or address space hang:
  • All items documented in the 'General Data Collection' section.
  • Generate an SVC dump of the Event Pump address space while in the state of 'high CPU' usage. For instructions on how to gather an SVC dump of the currently executing address space, follow the following presentation:

Generating_console_dump.odp
Event Pump unexpected results when enabling data sources and event feeds:
  • All items documented in the 'General Data Collection' section
  • Contents of the related configuration member(s) contained in the data set pointed to by the GTMMOD DD statement.
  • Contents of the related registration member(s) contained in the data set pointed to by the GTMINPUT DD statement.
  • Compress the data using TRSMAIN
  • Submit the data to IBM for review.

What to do next
