Descriptions of key InfoSphere Warehouse components
The key components of InfoSphere Warehouse are described as follows.
InfoSphere Warehouse Design Studio
- The Design Studio provides a common design environment for creating physical data models, OLAP cubes, SQL data flows and control flows, and Blox® Builder analytic applications. The Design Studio is built on the Eclipse Workbench, which is a development environment that you can customize.
InfoSphere Warehouse Administration Console
- The InfoSphere Warehouse Administration Console is a Web application from which you can deploy and manage applications, control flows, database resources, and system resources. You can do the following types of tasks in the Administration Console:
Common configuration
- Create and manage database and system resources, including driver definitions, log files, and notifications.
SQL warehousing
- Run and monitor data warehousing applications and view deployment histories and execution statistics.
- Manage cube servers, import and export cube models, explore cubes and cube models, and run the OLAP Metadata Optimization Advisor. Cubing Services works with business intelligence tools to provide OLAP access to data directly from InfoSphere Warehouse. Cubing Services includes tooling for multidimensional modeling to design OLAP metadata (cubes), an optimization advisor for recommending materialized query tables (MQTs) in DB2, and a cube server for providing multidimensional access to the data. Each of these Cubing Services components is integrated with the InfoSphere Warehouse user interfaces for design (Design Studio) and administration and maintenance (Administration Console).

Text Analysis
- With InfoSphere Warehouse, you can create business insight from unstructured information. You can extract information from text columns in your data warehouse then use the extracted information in reports, multidimensional analysis, or as input for data mining.

InfoSphere Warehouse with Optim Data Retention software is a bundled solution that includes IBM InfoSphere Warehouse Enterprise Edition and IBM Optim Data Growth Solution. This combination of products provides a complete end-to-end data growth solution for IBM enterprise data warehouse customers.
The separately purchasable IBM Base Warehouse Feature for DB2 and IBM Enterprise Warehouse Feature for DB2 provide an upgrade path for existing DB2 for Linux, UNIX, and Windows customers. With these features, you can extend your DB2 Enterprise Server investment by adding the superior scalability and comprehensive tooling of InfoSphere Warehouse. IBM Base Warehouse Feature for DB2 adds the capabilities of InfoSphere Warehouse Enterprise Base Edition to an existing DB2 Enterprise Server deployment. Similarly, the IBM Enterprise Warehouse Feature for DB2 adds the capabilities of InfoSphere Warehouse Enterprise Edition to an existing DB2 Enterprise Server deployment.
All editions of InfoSphere Warehouse allow the use of Q replication in DB2, but the use is restricted to a single DB2 source and target.
