Trend Micro real-time scanning on Citrix systems

Technote (troubleshooting)

The Trend Micro real-time scanning causes slow logins on a citrix server
systems. Things will slow to a hault as more users begin to login and
current users stop responding. Stopping the realtime scan logs the
users in right away.

Resolving the problem

The solution is to apply the proper real time scanning exclusions via the Wizard.

You may access the Real-Time Scan Setting Wizard from the Console.
In the Scan Exclusion section set the appropriate directory, file name, or extension type. You will need to know these exclusions and contact Citrix if necessary for proper exclusion values.

Citrix documentation:

Example Citrix exclusions:

1. On Citrix systems, exclude these file extensions from scanning to avoid any performance problems for both real time, on demand or scheduled scan.

2. Exclude the following directories from scanning for both real time, on demand or scheduled scan.

o Citrix program dir
o System page file
o Print spooler dir

System page file exclusion
%systemroot%\System32\Spool (replace %systemroot% with actual directory) C:\WINDOWS\pagefile.sys
C:\System Volume Information\pagefile.sys

Print spooler dir
Windows spools print jobs by default to the following directory:
%systemroot%\System32\Spool (replace %systemroot% with actual directory)

3. Select Create Configuration Task button in Wizard. Name this Task an appropriate name such as 'Citrix Real-time Exclusions'.

4. Take Action and Target the Citrix test Server.

5. Wait for the Action status to show Complete for the Action.

6. These same changes can be made to the On-Demand Scan Settings Wizard, the process would be the same as taken in the Real-Time Scan Settings Wizard.
