Clarity Server - "System.Web.HttpException Request timed out" error occurs when running books or saving large templates

When attempting to perform an action that takes a significant amount of time to complete (for example, saving a large template or running a large Report Book), a time out error similar to the one below may be reported.


Getting the following error message when running a specific template in IBM Clarity Server 7.

"Clarity.20000 An unexpected error occurred. See the stack trace for more information.
System.Web.HttpException Request timed out."


This error usually indicates that the server took longer than the allotted time to complete the action.

Saving a large template or running a large report book in Clarity application.

Resolving the problem

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:

  1. Open the <InstallDir>\Clarity Systems\ClarityServer\web\web.config file;
  2. Change the time limit by adding or modifying the following line under the <system.web> node:

    <httpRuntime executionTimeout="3600" />

*Prior making any changes, create a backup copy of the web.config file.

The value of this setting specifies the maximum number of seconds that a request is allowed to execute before being automatically shut down by ASP.NET. The default is 110 seconds. If the web server is timing out on a particular action, this setting can be increased to allow the web server more time to complete the action.
