Class not registered when starting TM1 Perspectives.

Technote (troubleshooting)


Problem(Abstract)

When upgrading the Excel version, some DLL files used by TM1 could become unregistered in the process. Can also occur at first installation of the Xcelerator client.

Symptom

Error message: Class not registered. Looking for object with CLSID: (AC9F2F90-E877-11CE-9F68-00AA00574A4F)


Cause

Unregistered DLL, or corrupted dll.

Environment

TM1 Perspectives client or Cognos Express Xcelerator client.

Resolving the problem

Register the dll:

Go to Start- Run, type the following and hit return:
regsvr32 "C:\WINDOWS\system32\FM20.DLL"

NOTE: on Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008, you will need to run the command prompt as an administrator (right-click on it and choose Run as Administrator).

If this does not resolve the issue, try copying an FM20.dll from another working machine (with the same version of Excel), unregister the original dll: regsvr32 /u "C:\WINDOWS\system32\FM20.DLL", then replace the original dll with the one copied from another machine, and register it: regsvr32 "C:\WINDOWS\system32\FM20.DLL"

If this still does not work, it could be that the mscomctl.ocx needs to be reregistered. See the following technote for more information:
