How to prevent ClearCase Explorer from examining views at first use

Question & Answer

Question

How can you prevent IBM Rational ClearCase Explorer from examining your system looking for current views after installing or deleting the ClearCase Explorer registry key?

Cause

When you open ClearCase Explorer for the first time (after installing or after deleting the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Atria\ClearCase\CurrentVersion\ClearCase Explorer registry key) it examines your system looking for current views.

This is the default behavior for the product.

Answer

To avoid this behavior, before opening ClearCase Explorer for the first time, create a .reg file with the following content and execute it:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Atria\ClearCase\CurrentVersion\ClearCase Explorer]

"HasBeenRun"=dword:00000001

This key will tell ClearCase Explorer that this is not the first time it is being used and will prevent it from examining the system to locate the views.
