Question
Why are there SRT files in the $INFORMIXDIR/tmp ?
Cause
The files srt* stored at $INFORMIXDIR/tmp are files used for sorting when the temporary dbspace used by session listed in the DBSPACETEMP is full or when nor DBSPACETEMP is not set.
Answer
In order to avoid the creation of srt* files the recommendation is to increase the size of the temporary dbspaces listed at DBSPACETEMP onconfig parameter.
Even when the files srt* can be used instead a temporary dbspace, it is preferred to use temporary dbspace for performance purposes.
