Unknown errors running utilities

Technote (troubleshooting)

Problem

Unknown error/status messages when running maintenance tasks manually with Domino server down.

Symptom

When running Domino maintenenance tasks from a CMD prompt in 64bit Windows with Domino 32bit servers, the following error/status messages will be seen:

Example:

nfixup -f {database} error on minSizeWrite (was 0)!

Newly set file system cache values are minSizeRead 1024 kb, maxSizeRead 10066020 kb, flags 1

Cause

These messages, new to Domino 8.5.3, are coming from the cacheset.exe module used for 32bit Domino running on 64bit Windows.

When the maintenance tasks are run while Domino is running, the task is launched with an 'awareness' that the Domino system variables already exist and there is no need to initialize the environment, as opposed to when they are run as standalone applications. When started alone via command line, the cacheset utility is called to check the existing settings and these messages are generated when that task is called. These are informational only, and no corrective action is required.

Environment

32bit Domino 8.5.3 on Win64.

Diagnosing the problem

New status messages not previously seen in earlier versions of Domino.

Resolving the problem

Domino is working as designed. These messages are normal.
