Unable to login to the Information Server Web Console

Technote (troubleshooting)


Problem(Abstract)

When attempting to open the Information Server Web Console (by default in http://server_name:9080/ibm/iis/console/ ) the following message is displayed:

The server encountered an unexpected condition, which prevented it from fulfilling the request. Click here to go back to the previous page

Symptom

SystemErr.log contains:

[10/12/11 13:07:58:221 CEST] 0000000c SystemErr R 2011-10-12 13:07:58,221 Error [ISF-INITIALIZATION] [0001] Error javax.security.auth.login.FailedLoginException: Session id for principal [InformationServerSystemUser] is null. Either the client is not using the ASB authentication service, or your server JAAS configuration is missing the proper ASB custom JAAS login modules.


SystemOut.log contains:

Cause

WebSphere Application Security is disabled.

Resolving the problem

  1. Open the WebSphere Administration Console
  2. Click on Security => Global Security
  3. Click the check box for "Enable application security"
  4. Save your changes and restart WAS
