SMS messages and secondary email addresses in Maximo

Question & Answer

Question

Using SMS messages and secondary email addresses in Maximo

Answer

Maximo can be interfaced with an external system to allow for sending of
SMS however there is no standard out of the box solution for this. You
can contact our GBS team who can assist you with this custom
interface. You could also try to use the MEA functionality to interface
via XML and webservices on your Maximo installation with an external system
which can allow for sending of SMS directly from Maximo. Alternatively
you can use the communication templates and a compatible mail server
which can also use the Email-to-Fax or Email-to-Text services and reduce
the amount of customizations needed to interface Maximo with a SMS
compatible system.

You can use either email-to-sms or java sms to enable SMS.
In email-to-sms you would send email from Maximo to your mobile provider
and then that would be sent as sms.but here the security is a concern as you
are sharing your business data with the third party. A second option is to develop your own SMS application using the java comm api in combination with the GSM modem. Then you can integrate this application with Maximo.but this requires programming skills or you would need to contact Business Services.

Clients have also asked if it is possible to use a non-primary email address when using a Communication Template in Maximo. This can be done by utilizing the Email Type field associated with each email address, and creating the necessary relationships between the person record and the email record. Once those relationships exist, roles can be created to utilize the different email addresses when creating communications from ticket records. See the attached file for more details on how to do this.
