Mttrapd probe: Invalid EngineID argument

Troubleshooting


Problem

After configuring the Mttrapd probe to accept SNMP v3 traps by adding the createUser command to the mttrapd.conf file, receive an error that the engine id is invalid.

Symptom

This error message in the mttrapd log file

2011-09-28T14:34:57: Error: E-UNK-000-000: SNMP Message (priority=3):

/opt/netcool/omnibus/var/mttrapd.conf: line 30: Error: invalid EngineID argument to -e

Cause

The Engine ID specified must conform with RFC

Resolving The Problem

RFC 2571 defines the format for SNMP Engine IDs

(http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc2571.txt)

When the engine ID starts with 0, the Engine ID should have a length of 12 octets.
