Generating Heapdumps - Maximo Application Server hosted on WebSphere

Technote (FAQ)

Question

A heapdump is useful for troubleshooting server performance problems. They are automatically generated when the JVM throws OutOfMemoryError. Since not all performance problems cause OutOfMemoryError, you may need to trigger one on your own for analysis.

Answer

To generate a heapdump when OutOfMemoryError condition does not apply, follow the steps for the appropriate operating system for WebSphere 6.0.2, 6.1 and 7.0 in the Related Information section below.
