VVM 10.1.1 Cannot add an LDAP user domain, receive 'Service failure: Internal Server Error'
When attempting to create an LDAP domain in Virtual View Manager Administration, an Internal Server Error message is thrown in a dialog box.
Service failure: Internal Server Error <?xml version="1.1" encoding="utf-8"?>
When attempting to create a new LDAP Domain within VVM Administration, an error message is presented.
In the vvm/logs/cs_server_client.log file, an error string will be present:
Caused by: java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: com/sun/jndi/ldap/ctl/VirtualListViewControl
IBM Cognos Virtual View Manager 10.x does not redistribute Oracle's LDAP connection library, entitled ldapbp.jar
Resolving the problem
You will need to download the Oracle LDAP Connection library entitled ldapbp.jar. The need to obtain this file is documented in the IBM Cognos Virtual View Manager Administrator's Guide (vvm_ag_guide.pdf) under "Chapter 1: Post-installation tasks", in a sub-section entitled "Configuring LDAP".
The instructions in the guide read as follows:
1. Obtain the ldapbp.jar file.
2. Copy the ldapbp.jar file to the Virtual View Manager installation directory: installation_directory\apps\common\lib
3. Restart the server.
