Question

Which Operating Systems are supported with Gentran:Server for iSeries?

Answer

Gentran: Server for iSeries is not CPU or System dependent.
For example, Power8 and Power10 or any current IBM supported CPU's are perfectly acceptable. When there are operating systems changes, it is much more impacting to the software and current patching/PTF is expected to be required.
To determine Release and Fix Point Release key in PTR at the Gentran OS command line and enter, it will display on your screen.
 
Gentran:Server for iSeries, Release 3.6
Will run on V7R5, recommended to be on the latest cumulative fix for 3.6 release *please see additional information listed below
Will run on V7R4, recommended to be on the latest cumulative fix for 3.6 release *please see additional information listed below
Additional Information regarding V7R4 and higher OS: 
The following are issues that have been found by other customers after upgrading their operating system to V7R4 or higher, they are not Gentran related, but OS related, we listed them here for your reference, please reach out to appropriate IBMi OS support if you run into one of the following issues:
  • There might also be a need to reactivate some of the ciphers that get disabled in 7.4 or higher.   Get the TLS  and ciphers required from your VAN first, then call IBMi OS FTP support to get them reactivated or use this knowledgebase to assist: https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/node/535297
  • After V7R4 or higher upgrade encoding scheme not compatible utilizing GIFSGATE/CPYFRMSTMF https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/node/6442967
  • If using XML Translator - Java Versions (JDK) are different based on OS (From the iSeries command line key in: qsh then key in: java -version). Then make sure applicable java version is assigned to /home/userprofile/.profile
  • If changing Servers, please check your DNS address (IP) setup in HOST entries.
Will run on V7R3, recommended to be on the latest cumulative fix for 3.6 release
Will run on V7R2  AND V7R1 with no fixes needed, please review an item found below:
  • If running FTPs or Secure FTP, a change to system value QSSLPCL must be made to *TLSV1 (the default value of *OPSYS will not work with Sterling B2B Collaboration Network since V7R2 changed the default to be *TLSV2).  https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/node/525899 Will run on V7R1 with no fixes needed

Gentran Server for iSeries Release that are NO LONGER SUPPORTED!!!
Gentran:Server for iSeries, Release 3.5 (Sunset in Sept 2021)
  • Is certified on V5R4 of OS/400, and can run on V5R2 or higher. 
  • Will run on V6R1 with at least point release 3.5.05. 
  • Will run on V7R1 with at least 3.5.05, but it is recommended you update to 3.5.19 as this was the point of testing. 
  • Will run on V7R2, recommended to be on latest cumulative fix for 3.5 release.
  • Will run on V7R3, recommended to be on the latest cumulative fix for 3.5 release.
  • Will run on V7R4, recommended to be on the latest cumulative fix for 3.5 release.

Gentran:Server for iSeries, Release 3.4 (End of Support as of April 30, 2015)
  • Is certified on V5R4 of OS/400, and can run on V5R2 or higher.
  • Will run on V6R1 with at least point release 3.4.25.
  • Will run on V7R1 with at least 3.4.25, but it is recommended you update to 3.4.35 as this was the point of testing. 
  • Will run on V7R2 recommended to be on latest cumulative fix for 3.4 release.
  • NOTE: objects called EDI001NOP, EBDI001SAV, EBDI002SAV might come over and not convert. These objects are no longer used by Gentran:Server for iSeries and can be removed.
  • NOTE: To determine point release, key in PTR at the Gentran Command line and enter.
