Support for the Visual Mapper

Technote (FAQ)

Question

How long will the Visual Mapper be supported? (SCI50378)

Answer

Effective 1 March 2012, the Visual Mapper will no longer be delivered with any version of IBM Sterling Gentran:Server for UNIX. Existing visual maps will continue to execute, and the LFTRAN engine will continue to be supported. IBM will accept support calls for the Visual Mapper, and will answer questions, but effective immediately, the Visual Mapper has reached end of fix. We strongly recommend that you begin to recreate existing visual maps using the Application Integration (AI) mapper.

This change is being made because, as part of all acquisitions, IBM requires that all products complete a technology review. The Visual Mapper does not conform to IBM technology standards, and substantial changes would be required to bring the Visual Mapper into compliance with IBM requirements. Since it has been stated for years that the AI mapper is the strategic map editor for Gentran:Server (in Unix environments), the decision was made to not rework the Visual Mapper. Consequently, we can no longer distribute installation media for the Visual Mapper.
