Troubleshooting

Problem

MDN error authentication-failed (SCI49368)

Symptom

Disposition: Automatic-action/mdn-sent-automatically;processed/Error: authentication-failed
EDIINT: Loading partner signing cert
Error - class: 5; subclass: 1; code: -1; reporting function: SecureMessageResolver.ValidateSMIMEDetachedSignaturecalled function: SecureMessageResolver.ValidateSMIMEDetachedSignatureText: verification failed
Expected signer info not found
*****VERIFICATION FAILED*****

Cause

This error message is reported in the status report of the EDIINTParse service
because GIS could not verify the signing certificate that the trading partner
used to sign the document.

Resolving The Problem

Change the signing certificate in the trading partner profile to the trusted signing certificate the trading partner sent and was checked into GIS.

The certificate should not be your own signing certificate.
Verify with the trading partner that the certificate in use is the most current.

In some cases, the method used to e-mail or ftp the certificate will effect the validity of the certificate file.

  • When using FTP to send the certificate to the GIS machine use the transfer mode 'BINARY'.

  • When e-mailing the certificate ensure the file is in a zip format first. Simply renaming the file may damage it.
