The clean_cache command reports "File ... not removed because cache is inconsistent with archive" in Rational Synergy

Technote (troubleshooting)

Problem(Abstract)

Attempts to run the clean cache command results in error "File name-version:type:instance not removed because cache is inconsistent with archive" in IBM Rational Synergy.

Symptom

The ccm clean_cache command reports an error similar to the following:

File name-version:type:instance not removed because cache is inconsistent with archive

Cause

The clean_cache command removed files from the cache to reduce the size of the database in the file system. Before a cache file is removed the command checks to so see if the file is archived correctly. This error indicates that there is a difference between the cache file and the archive and this difference needs to be resolved before the cache file is removed.

Diagnosing the problem

You need to run the command fs_check which will analyze the cache and the archive to see if there are any errors.

Resolving the problem

To resolve the problem you must run the 'ccm fs_check' command and resolve any errors reported. Once this is done you can re run the clean_cache command.

See TechNote 1624983: How to check your file system cache & archive in Rational Synergy.
