Upgrading ClearQuest 7.1.x to 8.0 may fail if you have downloaded and installed ClearQuest 7.1.x Full-Text Search Administrator tool from DCF download

Troubleshooting

Problem

If you used ClearQuest 7.1.x Full-Text Search Administrator tool from DCF download website to deploy ClearQuest 7.1.x Full-Text Search, and you attempt to upgrade to ClearQuest 8.0, your upgrade may fail with the error message that states, "Update failed" and "Failed to extract zip CQ.Full.Text.Search.Admin.Tool.Files".

Cause

The reason for the upgrade failure is due to the fact that ClearQuest 8.0 now includes the Full-Text Search Administrator tool. If you already have a copy of this tool from DCF download website, the Install Manager will not proceed with the upgrade.

Resolving The Problem

To resolve this issue, take the following steps:

  1. When the Installation Manger reports the error message, make sure the "Keep fetched files" option is selected, click "OK," then click "Finish".
  2. In your existing ClearQuest 7.1.x home directory, locate a file called cqtsadmin.pl and a directory called CQTsAdmin. The file and directory default location is in "C:\Program Files\IBM\RationalSDLC\ClearQuest\" on Windows and in "/opt/ibm/RationalSDLC/clearquest/" on UNIX.
  3. Delete or rename the file cqtsadmin.pl and the directory CQTsAdmin. This is the ClearQuest 7.1.x's Full-Text Search Administrator tool that you downloaded from DCF download website.
  4. In the Installation Manager, re-start the upgrade process by clicking "Update" and the upgrade should now work correctly.
