Synchronization fails with error "Synchronized stream is currently in use by another stream"

Technote (troubleshooting)


Attempts to synchronize an IBM Rational ClearCase (CC) UCM Stream with IBM Rational Team Concert (RTC) using the RTC Eclipse UI results in the following error: "Synchronization blocked by error: Synchronized stream is currently in use by another stream"


Two symptoms will occur:

  1. The following error message is displayed:
    Synchronization blocked by error: Synchronized stream is currently in use by another stream
  2. The synchronization fails.


The ClearCase stream is locked due to a failed synchronization in the past.


RTC / CC Connector integration.

Resolving the problem

To resolve this error, we need to unlock the stream.

NOTE: It is typically NOT advisable to select Unlock during active synchronization. However, when a synchronization is failing with this particular error, this action will correct the status in Rational Team Concert and ClearCase and a new synchronization can start.

To Unlock the stream:

  1. Go to the properties of the ClearCase synchronized stream in the RTC Eclipse client.

  2. Click on the Unlock button.

  3. Attempt the synchronization again. It will succeed.
