Steps an OpenPages End User Can Use to Create a Link to a Network Drive Using the SOXExternalDocument object type

Technote (troubleshooting)

Problem(Abstract)

How can an OpenPage end user create a link to a network drive using SOXExternalDocument?

Symptom

If an end user attempts to type in an invalid URL, the system will throw an:

Invalid URL, \\myfileshare\mydocuments\file.txt

Resolving the problem

The URL should be in the form of: <protocol>://<fqdn>/<directory-path>/file where the end user replaces:

  • <protocol> with a value such as: ftp, http, file, etc.
  • <fqdn> Fully Qualified Domain Name (: ie: servername.yourcompany.com)
  • <directory-path> with the path to the file.
  • <file> with the name of the file.

For example: file://mycomputer.mynetwork.com/mydocuments/readme.txt
