Known issues for Tivoli Storage Productivity Center

This is a list of known issues that have not been fixed.

After upgrading to 4.2.2 FP1 (4.2.2.95), probes on the down level Storage Resource agents fail.

If you have the savenonroot and/or skipautofs parameters set in the TPCD.config file and have Storage Resource agents that are at a version lower than 4.2.2 FP1 (4.2.2.95), the probes of the down level Storage Resource agents will fail with the error message "The Storage Resource agent version is not compatible with the server."

Workarounds:
Do one of the following:

  • Restart the server after you disable the savenonroot and/or skipautofs parameters in one of the following ways:
    • Remove the corresponding line from the TPCD.config file
    • Set the value to 0
  • Upgrade the down level Storage Resource agents to 4.2.2 FP1 (4.2.2.95)
If you cannot complete either of these options, contact IBM Software Support for a patch that contains the fix.

Two Information Center topics are missing the instructions necessary to run the Service tool:
  • Creating a compressed file about servers for the IBM Support Center
  • Creating a compressed file about Storage Resource Agents for the IBM Support Center

To see the missing instructions, see the following section and topics in the Problem Determination Guide:

Service tool: collecting information
  • Running the Service tool for the servers, page 8
  • Running the Service tool for the agents, page 9

The installation summary page does not display any text for the Linux x86 64-bit operating system.

Workaround:
After you see the installation summary page, click Previous, then Next. The summary page will be displayed.

When you update the credentials for the XIV system that is found with an IP scan, this operation does not work. The operation fails with an ESSNI communication error and incorrectly lists the system as a DS8000 type.

Workaround:
Manually add the XIV system and its credentials in the Tivoli Storage Productivity Center GUI. Click Administrative Services > Data Sources > Storage Device.

A file system scan definition lists the Storwize V7000U file system as available even if the scan agent is not assigned.

For a file system scan, a probe must be run for the Storage Resource agent and Storwize V7000U. The scan agent must be assigned through the "Scan/Probe Agent Administration" page. After the scan agent is assigned, the file system is available in the scan job definition under the "available" section.

In the case for the Storwize V7000U file system, the file system is listed as available even if the scan agent is not assigned. If a scan agent is not assigned for the file system, the scan cannot do a file system scan.

Workaround:
If you have not assigned a scan agent for the Storwize V7000U file system before creating a scan definition, you must assign a scan agent to the file system so you can scan the file system.

After a Tier 3 or 4 recovery procedure is performed on an SVC or Storwize system (V7000, V7000U, V3700, etc.) that was previously probed by Tivoli Storage Productivity Center, the cluster data is no longer available in the Tivoli Storage Productivity Center UI. During these
recovery procedures, the storage system is given a new cluster ID. Tivoli Storage Productivity Center is not aware of the new cluster ID associated with this device and cannot locate and gather data from the storage system.

To resolve this issue, remove the affected storage system from Tivoli Storage Productivity Center and then add the device again. Run a discovery job and probe job to gather data on the storage system.

In Tivoli Storage Productivity Center Version 4.2.1 (or later), if you change your LDAP password, you may not be able to upgrade to Tivoli Storage Productivity Center Version 5.2 because your LDAP credentials cannot be validated.

To resolve this issue, see the doc_corrections_v4221.pdf attachment.

If a Windows domain user account is used to install Tivoli® Storage Productivity Center, the user account might not have the DB2® SYSADM authority, because DB2 goes to the domain controller computer to list the groups. Before you install Tivoli Storage Productivity Center, you must grant the Windows domain user accounts the DB2 SYSADM authority.

To enter the commands, and grant DB2 SYSADM authority, complete the following steps:
  1. Click Start > Command Prompt.
  2. Right-click Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.
  3. Enter these commands:
    db2cmd
    db2set -g DB2_GRP_LOOKUP=local,TOKENLOCAL
    db2 force application all
    db2stop
    db2start
    db2set -all

After you run the commands, you can log in to Tivoli Storage Productivity Center by using a user account that has DB2 SYSADM authority.

If you are logged in with your Windows domain user account, you might not have the authorization to run the db2 force application all command.

Important: When you grant DB2 SYSADM authority, and the db2 force application all command does not work, you can enter the db2stop command instead of the db2 force application all command.

In the Tivoli Storage Productivity Center Version 4221 information center topic Enabling secure communication between Tivoli Storage Productivity Center and the LDAP repository, step 2 is missing some information. See the doc_corrections_v4221.pdf attachment for the missing information.

APAR IC92894

When you add a NAS filer, you must enter the Administrator user ID for the Storage Resource agent service on which it runs.

To manually add a NAS filer, complete the following steps in the Tivoli Storage Productivity Center stand-alone GUI:
  1. Expand Administrative Services > Configuration > Manual NAS Server Entry.
  2. Click Add NAS Server.
  3. On the Add NAS Server window, enter the Administrator user ID in the Login ID field.

APAR IC93534

You cannot log in to Tivoli Integrated Portal and Tivoli Storage Productivity Center after you modify the authentication and try to restore Tivoli Storage Productivity Center.

To resolve this situation, complete the following tasks:
  • Before you change the user authentication configuration by adding or removing an LDAP repository in the federated repositories framework, back up the existing WebSphere Application Server configuration files.
  • After you add an LDAP repository to the user authentication configuration and want to later change the LDAP authentication settings, back up the WebSphere configuration files.
  • In the TIP_installation_directory, back up, and if necessary, restore the isc.ear file.

On Windows operating systems:

TIP_installation_directory\profiles\TIPProfile\installedApps\TIPCell\isc.ear

If you completed a default installation on the Windows operating system, the isc.ear directory is located here:

C:\ProgramFiles\IBM\tipv2\profiles\TIPProfile\installedApps\TIPCell\isc.ear\

On AIX or Linux operating systems:

TIP_installation_directory/profiles/TIPProfile/installedApps/TIPCell/isc.ear

If you completed a default installation on the AIX or Linux operating systems, the isc.ear directory is located here:

C:/ProgramFiles/IBM/tipv2/profiles/TIPProfile/installedApps/TIPCell/isc.ear

If you install Tivoli Storage Productivity Center for Replication on an Asian language version of the Red Hat Linux operating system version 5.1 or later, the Tivoli Storage Productivity Center graphical user interface (GUI) contains unintelligible characters. In this situation, set your system locale to English before you run the Tivoli Storage Productivity Center for Replication installation program. Once installation is complete, you can use Tivoli Storage Productivity Center in any supported language.
