Opening a DOORS module results in "Error while parsing file 'rifids' at line 1: expecting RIFDatabaseSignature"

Troubleshooting


Problem

Attempts to open an IBM Rational DOORS module results in "Error while parsing file 'rifids' at line 1: expecting RIFDatabaseSignature".

Symptom

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Launch IBM Rational DOORS
  2. Opening the module will display the following error message:

Error while parsing file 'rifids' at line 1: expecting RIFDatabaseSignature

Click OK to abort the process and Rational DOORS session will be closed.

Cause

This error message will appear when the rifid.dtb and sessions.dtb files of the particular module is corrupted.

Resolving The Problem

To resolve this issue, apply the following steps:

  1. Stop the Rational DOORS DB Server in services.msc

  2. Locate the .mod folder of the affected module in the Rational DOORS data directory

  3. Open the folder current.ver

    Note: Make a copy of the folder current.ver directory as a backup

  4. Rename the files rifid.dtb and sessions.dtb to rifid.dtc and sessions.dtc

  5. Start the Rational DOORS DB Server

  6. Reopen the module
