How to use different timezones for the instance and OS level

Question & Answer

Question

If the server system timezone is set to GMT in the /etc/TIMEZONE file, or any other timezone, and you want DB2 or DB2 applications to pick up a different timezone, how can you accomplish this?

Answer

You can set the timezone system environment variable in the .profile of the instance owner.

Example:

1) cd to the instance home directory

2) vi .profile
3) set TZ=<new_timezone>
4) source the .profile file

This instance will pick up the timezone from the .profile. Other instances on the server will pick up the timezone at the system level.
