Question & Answer
Question
Why does my Image Services or Image Services Toolkit application return the error message: "202,0,2005 SysV: Error 5 creating file mapping" when running on a Windows platform?
Cause
This is a Windows error 5 (reported by SysV) which indicates the application has insufficient privileges.
Answer
To eliminate the security errors, follow the requirements for running Image Services and Image Services Tool Kit:
1. Enable the Create Global Objects privilege.
1. Enable the Create Global Objects privilege.
- To verify the Create Global Objects privilege has been granted to a Windows 7 user, go to:
Control Panel -> System and Security -> Administrative Tools -> Local Security Policy -> Local Policies -> User Rights Assignment -> Create Global Objects - To verify the Create Global Objects privilege has been granted to a Windows 2008 user, go to:
Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Local Security Policy -> Local Policies -> User Rights Assignment -> Create Global Objects
2. On Microsoft Windows 7 and Windows 2008 systems, one User Account Control (UAC) security policy needs to be disabled.
- On Microsoft Windows 7, follow this path:
Control Panel -> System and Security -> Administrative Tools -> Local Security Policy -> Local Policies -> Security Options -> User Account Control: Run all administrators in Admin Approved mode, Change the policy to Disabled - On Microsoft Windows 2008, follow this path:
Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Local Security Policy -> Local Policies -> Security Options -> User Account Control: Run all administrators in Admin Approved mode, Change the policy to Disabled - On Microsoft Windows 2012, follow the instructions given in the following Microsoft link:
Windows Server 2012: Deactivating UAC
3. Verify the Image Services Control service is configured to log on as the fnsw user:
Control Panel -> System and Maintenance -> Administrative Tools -> Services -> Right Click on IS ControlService -> Log On tab
If the log on is not configured, TM_daemon and ipc_daemon start as the SYSTEM user. The Windows Task Manager shows the user that started these processes. This causes the Windows error 5 issues for both, memory mapping and inter-process communication.
